The Department of Defense (DoD) has invited people to hack their systems in an announcement made on 31 Mar – a day before April Fool. No, it wasn’t a joke. The DoD started registrations for their first ever federal bug bounty programme to help them better secure their technology.
This program is the Defense Digital Service’s (DDS) first public initiative began as a new way to let Americans legally hack their own government. In 2012, DoD’s websites had 4 billion visits and 25% of them were illegal in some way or the other. That means 1 billion attempts were made to undermine US security.

After the Pentagon announced their ‘Hack the Pentagon’ they had more than 500 registrations with over 10 qualified hackers signing up per hour. This is great news considering that everyone these days is getting desperate for tighter security measures. The actual bounty begins on 18 April 2016. The programme costs $150,000, but they’ve not revealed how much they’re willing to ‘pay per hack.’
